ASCOA 09′ Winter Meeting in Munising, Michigan

The ASCOA met for their Winter Meeting at Cherrywood Lodge in Wetmore which is just a little outside Munising. The morning started with a club meeting at the Lodge with introductions of all members and a formal business meeting filled with laughs and everyone having a good time.

Around noon, the fun began with Antique Racing, Hill Climbing and Sled Displays. The day finished with a Banquet and awards. The Bolens family was well represented and I met quite a few new Bolens’ Owners along with many of the directors of the club. A great bunch of people that deserve our support.

Behind the lodge on private property, everyone met and readied themselves for the first racing event which was a timed oval through the woods with two sleds racing at a time.

Two Hus Ski 444s racing_

Randy and Bob from Ohio (left) raced two 503s. Bob’s unrestored 503 was no match for Randy’s restored 503 only in that the track spun so much. We are only guessing the track grousers must be folded over because the unrestored 503 is a great running machine. Sporting some fancey paint and decals on their 502 was Ron and Cherri G from Big Bay, Michigan. Ron on the Hus Ski outran Cherri on the Diablo as the Diablo got loaded up and just could not get a head of steam under it. Either way, it sure looked neat.

Larry S from Allegan, Michigan (left) and Bob R from Big Bay, Michigan sported off their 444 restorations. Very nice machines shown racing in the video above.

Charle V’s trailer above with his 600 single track. Charlie and Marilyn are proprietors of the Top of the Lake Snowmobile Museum in Naubinway, Michigan at topofthelake.org

In all, there must have been a dozen Hus Skis and Diablos that attended the event.

Above are one of my favorites in that the Antique Snowmobile had an Ice Auger attachment on it. Flip up the auger, attach the belt and the machine is drilling holes. How cool is that.

I want to thank John McGirk who is the President of ASCOA and also their team of Directors and Supporters as this is a great organization to join and support. You can see their website at ASCOA.ORG

One additional note, the ASCOA is holding their Winter 10′ event in Antigo, Wisconsin and this would be an option to join this event with our 3rd Annual Hus Ski / Diablo Get Together.
