Hus Ski – General Parts and Common Questions
Between Barrie and myself, we get a lot of questions about Hus Skis and common parts they need. This page is a collection of various bits of information. The page will evolve as we continue to add to it.

Drive Belts:
200 & 200A – HP 2003 or a Dayco GTS 761
444 – Gates 6013
Chain Drive:
The roller chain is a size 40. The upper gear is a 9 tooth sprocket with a special spline bore.
Bearings:
Axle bearings on the 200, 200A and 400 are 6205-2RS
444 Rear axle bearings are 6205-2RS and front axle bearings are 6203-2RS
Jackshaft bearings on all models are 6204-2RS
Electrical:
The incandescent headlight is a PAR 36. You can also buy an LED lamp with the same designation.
A close replacement for the tail light is a GRO450225 from NAPA.
Motors:
The 200 and 200A use the JLO L148R, or sometimes referred to a L152R.
The 400, 600 and 444 use the JLO 252R.
The original spark plugs were Champion K9. The modern replacement are AB7 and AB8.
Carburetors and Fuel:
The original carb used with the JLO L148R are Tillotson HL167A. A possible replacement with some modifications is a Nimtek 4333886115 used on Harley Golf Carts from 1967-1981. Check Amazon. About $40
The original carb used with the JLO L252R are Tillotson HL186A. A possible replacement with some modifications is a Qazaky 27158-67A. Search Tillotson 27158-67A on Amazon. About $30.
Use “High Test” or “Premium” fuel with 2-stroke “Air Cooled” snowmobile oil mixed at 30:1.
Chassis and Paint:
The paint Barrie specifies is special mix called Tropicalia Yellow by Nason. The paint Bruce uses is also Nason but is a standard JD yellow and part number 414-9728. Both are arguably correct.
Tracks:
All tracks are 101″ long rubber to rubber not including the gap for the lacers.
All wooden cleats are 1-1/2″ x 3/4″ x 12″ and made of hard maple.
- Snowtraveller track belts are 4 belts that are all 4″ wide
- 200, 200A and 400 track belts are 2 belts that are 4″ wide and 2 belts that are 6″ wide.
- 444 and 600 double track belts are 4 belts that are all 5″ wide
- Track lacers on Snowtraveller, 200, 200A and 400 models have typical conveyor belting style of lacer.
- Track lacers on early 444 and 600 models may have similar lacing as above but were later a solid lacer as shown below.
The wooden sliders are 2″ x 1-3/8″ x 28″ and made of hard maple. If you curve the bottom of the slider, it will make steering the machine easier. See picture below.
